Community Based Crime Reduction

The Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation (BCJI) Program is part of BJA’s Smart Suite Programs. These programs invest in the development of practitioner-researcher partnerships that use data, evidence, and innovation to create strategies and interventions that are effective and economical.

This $1 million dollar grant awarded to the City of St. Louis’ Health Department designated for the Near North Side neighborhood will utilize evidence-based strategies to increase and improve safety, overall violence reduction and restorative justice opportunities through resident-led initiatives.

Through community engagement, our partners and residents were able to discuss the larger safety opportunities and then compile them into a graphic that shows our plan to implement these resident-led crime reduction strategies and the partners dedicated to this work.
